‘Pupils have a right to receive an overall religious education that will enable them, in the light of the faith of the Church, to engage with the deepest questions of life and find reasons for the hope that is within them (1 Peter 3:15)…Therefore Religious Education is never simply one subject among many, but the foundation of the entire educational process.’ (Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales, January 2000.)

To Know You More Clearly

To Know You More Clearly is used for Religious Education, which aligns with the Religious Education Directory. The curriculum is structured around six branches that are taught throughout the year. While each year group studies the same branches, the content is progressive, enabling students to explore each branch in greater depth as they advance through their education.

The To Know You More Clearly curriculum is structured around six branches, with one branch taught per half term. These branches are:

  • Creation and Covenant
  • Prophecy and Promise
  • From Galilee to Jerusalem
  • From Desert to Garden
  • To the Ends of the Earth
  • Dialogue and Encounter

Each of these branches is explored through a four-part framework: Hear, Believe, Celebrate, and Live.

At the end of each branch, children will be able to demonstrate their learning in three key areas:

  • Understand: This refers to their comprehension of the core concepts and teachings. It’s about what they know.
  • Discern: This involves their ability to reflect on and apply what they’ve learned to their own lives and experiences. It’s about making a connection between the teachings and their own personal values.
  • Respond: This relates to how they act on their understanding and discernment. It’s about putting their knowledge into practice through their actions and behaviours.
